After a two - year break caused by a restoration of our building at 54 Monte Cassino street - the heart of Polish artistic milieu for fifty years i.e. SPATiF, we had been getting through five years of endless fun. It had happened quite a lot throughout that time. There had been scandals, previews, concerts, theatre plays, happenings, birthday parties, the Bimba meetings and long chinwags in a mist of tobacco smoke mixed with gossip spreading in the air. There had turned out some cranks as well. Our club has always appealed to all shapes and sizes nutters, cheap artists waiting for a drink on the house, storytellers and a wide range of individuals who couldn`t fit in with reality. Since it had come off so much during 1825 days under the boss rule, we made a decision that the next day would be extraordinarily witty. And so it was thanks to an outstanding performance of a dance band – STANDARD AKUSTIC, which usually plays on a ferry boat shuttling between Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca. Then we hosted the ŚMIERDZIELE, who sung a capella the hit “Hey – Ho Let`s Go”. That went quickly and no-one probably slipped up. After the following shows of Bjorn, Janne, Ingemar and Matti, the crew – GREMPLINA appeared on stage to croon two songs, which lyrics were written for this very evening. The boss almost wept. In the end the Doctor was supposed to lead a real dance parade to the rhythm of the catchy song. It was a spectacular sight when almost all poured out in the Promenade – it looked like Sopot in good old days. And later on? Later on, love was floating in air like cigarette smog due to poor ventilation. Everyone was nice to each other as if it were just before the Christmas day - giving presents and all that stuff. And no wonder it was, because our get – together took place on 28 th of December so, right after Christmas and before New Year`s Day, the time when whole British – Warsaw migration comes here to have fun.
A few days ago, we had found out about the missed opportunity of staging the GRATIS, we were despairing then, and it could have been more globally… just listen to what you had lost… maybe they would play for the next five years.
